International Journal of Supervision in Psychotherapy, Number 8, 2026 Page | 88 Figure 2. Clinical principles of radical psychotherapy Figure 2 synthesizes the five postulates that organize radical psychotherapy as an ethically grounded, context-attentive clinical orientation. It highlights (1) contextualization without erasing personal agency, (2) power-awareness in the consulting room through transparency, negotiation, and clear contracting, (3) a depathologizing account of shame as socially produced and relationally maintained, (4) an anti-blame stance that avoids both client culpabilization and the romanticization of suffering, and (5) the primacy of safety and dignity as prerequisites for sustainable therapeutic change. 6. STRATEGIES AND TECHNIQUES Radical psychotherapy becomes persuasive only when its ethics can be translated into workable clinical moves, moves that are methodologically disciplined, relationally attuned, and explicitly protective of the client’s dignity. The strategies below are “signature” not because they are proprietary, but because they reliably operationalize the inside + world model: they keep the intrapsychic in view while refusing to erase the socio- structural. They also respond to a contemporary risk [22] implicitly warns about in professionalized psychotherapy systems: that practice becomes overly procedural, focused on technical compliance rather than contextual truth. In contrast, radical strategies aim to restore a fuller clinical intelligence, one that can hold symptom, story, and structure in the same formulation.
