International Journal of Supervision in Psychotherapy, Number 8, 2026 Page | 60 frame, simultaneously supporting guided reflection, professional self-regulation, and identity integration. Reflection, self-regulation, and professional identity are represented as interdependent dimensions influencing each other reciprocally. None is conceptualized as an endpoint; each may become, in different contexts, both a condition and a result of professional development. Professional experience is constantly reintroduced into the system, reinterpreted and integrated through reflective supervision. The diagram illustrates the circular and recursive character of the framework: supervision, through reflective holding, simultaneously supports reflection, self-regulation, and identity integration, which mutually influence one another and are continuously reactivated through professional experience. 7.6. EXPLANATORY AND APPLIED VALUE OF THE FRAMEWORK The value of the minimal integrative conceptual framework lies in its capacity to make visible formative processes often implicitly assumed in supervision. By explicating the relationships among supervision, reflection, self-regulation, and professional identity, the framework provides a shared language for research, training, and practice. From an applied perspective, the framework can guide the design of initial and continuing training programs, structure mentoring processes, and clarify the objectives of educational supervision. It also supports a clear ethical positioning by avoiding confusion between supervision and clinical intervention and by consolidating supervision’s educational role.
