The Mixed Standard Rating Scale for the clinical supervisor (MSRS) is composed of eight dimensions: 1. FLEXIBILITY = the professional dimension defined as the supervisor’s ability to adapt to the supervisee’s different development levels, to use different means of supervision, to use communication methods appropriate for each supervisee and to ask for feedback from the supervisee. 2. KNOWLEDGE = the professional dimension referring to the high level of the supervisor’s theoretical knowledge. It refers to the supervisor’s ability to update news and novelties in the field, to theories related to supervision from at least 2 or 3 therapeutic orientations, to the legislation belonging to the working domain. All this knowledge is in direct connection to an active and strong clinical practice; 3. STRUCTURE = the professional dimension defined as the supervisor’s ability to organize the supervisee’s material through an open dialogue. It also involves the development of a pedagogical style 4. PROFESSIONAL HUMILITY = the professional dimension defined as professional modesty. The supervisors must know that the principles by which they were chosen dependent to each situation; that being chosen by supervisees or by being referred to supervisees is not necessarily a reflection of one’s competencies (these choices may also be based on costs, geographical position, age, training provider). 5. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT = the professional dimension defined as the supervisor’s ability to maintain control and self-control in anxiety-laden situations and in challenging supervision situations. It also refers to the increased ability to tolerate uncertainty, being also connected to the supervisor’s therapeutic self and the ability to tolerate frustration. 6. CREATIVITY = the professional dimension defined as the supervisor’s competency to stimulate the supervisee in finding new ways to address the issues or the problem in supervision, also by using other perspectives. 7. SENSE OF HUMOR = the professional dimension defined as the supervisor’s ability to overcome confrontational situations using humour. Self-irony covers the supervisor’s competencies derived from those of a methodological and personal and social order. The use of humour also implies the presence of social intelligence; 8. PROFESSIONAL MODEL = the professional dimension defined as the supervisor’s practice of ethical behaviour in supervision and in daily life and covers all competencies belonging to the supervisor from the Competencies Schema (intellectual, methodological, personal, communication). Data processing and implementation The 11 supervisees were asked to fill in the mentioned instruments and when filling the answers in the MSRS was done with reference to the evaluation of the supervisor’s behaviour.
