51 and, as every addict is aware, you just need more…; eventually it does not matter if it is about material things, consumer goods or food, drugs or alcohol, cars, or holydays, and, why not, therapy or supervision. 3. CONCLUSION Ultimately, it is not about some definitive proof of the existence of a soul, or of the psyche, or of the spirit for that matter, but of what is the status of psychology and that of the psychologists as well. Because ultimately, people should take psychology in their own hands because they have, at least in nuce , a science of which they can be proud of. Otherwise, psychology will become some second-hand science and profession that even psychiatrists will treat with condescendence, with all the contempt they can master. We believe that here resides a large field of epistemological investigation that can help to recuperate some scientific status for our dear psychology. Moreover, although psychiatry treats solely mentally ill people and psychology attempts to investigate how our normal and functional mental apparatus operates, the former appears to be more scientific and more serious in all matters concerning the human psyche. Furthermore, it is difficult to understand how, why, and of what psychology has to be so timid or so ashamed. Additionally, it is not just in the name, but it seems to be an even deeper question concerning words, meanings, and consequent conceptions of the status of psychology itself. Such is the case for our psychology, which was defined as a science that studies mind and behaviour and not as the study of the soul, as in ‘psycho-logy’. Should we not place after all, the right people in the right nation, or the right name for the right science 1 ? Should we not study the soul or psyche and its problems if 1 Psychology is the science of mind and behavior. Psychology includes the study of conscious and unconscious phenomena, as well as feeling and thought. It is an academic discipline of immense scope. Psychologists seek an understanding of the emergent properties of brains, and all the variety of phenomena linked to those emergent properties, joining this way the broader neuro-scientific group of researchers. As a social science, it aims to understand individuals and groups by establishing general principles and researching specific cases. In this field, a professional practitioner or researcher is called a psychologist and can be classified as a social, behavioral, or cognitive scientist. Psychologists attempt to understand the role of mental functions in individual and social behavior, while also exploring the physiological and biological processes that underlie cognitive functions and behaviors. Psychologists explore behavior and mental processes, including perception, cognition, attention, emotion, intelligence, subjective experiences, motivation, brain functioning, and personality. This extends to interaction between people, such as interpersonal relationships, including psychological
